Microsoft Restricts AI Models with Strict Rules from 2027

The draft code of conduct released by Microsoft on September 14 specifies that future artificial intelligence models must not be able to resist human control and prohibits the development of weapons of mass destruction or cyber attacks. The purpose of the code is to keep AI tools useful, subordinated to humans.

The draft code of conduct that will take effect in 2027 sets strict frameworks for the operation of artificial intelligence models. The document states that neither people nor AI systems can override what it contains, and forbids models from participating in the development of weapons of mass destruction or initiating cyber attacks.

The restrictions of the code also extend to violent activities, malicious deepfake content, manipulation, and other forms of abuse. However, defensive cybersecurity activities are still supported by the models within certain limits.

Microsoft claims that engineers must define the limits before superintelligent systems reach most tasks in the next decade. The code is not yet final; the company will hold a six‑week public consultation and then intends to apply the finalized version from 2027.
