Anthropic Opens Biological Research Laboratory Near San Francisco

Anthropic has established a new laboratory in the San Francisco Bay area to conduct physical experiments. The facility aims to advance drug research and accelerate disease treatment that can be expedited by artificial intelligence.

Anthropic opened a biological research laboratory near San Francisco to carry out physical experiments. According to Eric Kauderer‑Abrams, head of the company’s life sciences division, tests in biology will still need to be performed for a long time in traditional laboratories.

The laboratory will conduct internal research, but it can also collaborate with external partners if necessary. The company’s June‑launched drug discovery program, Claude Science, is likely linked to the new facility.

Kauderer‑Abrams emphasized that Anthropic pursues research that pharmaceutical companies would not take on because they would not be profitable. Additionally, disease treatment previously deemed too complex can be accelerated with the help of artificial intelligence.

The company also works on robots capable of performing scientific experiments, but Kauderer‑Abrams notes that human oversight remains essential for laboratory safety.
