CheckEye in the Car: AI Boosts Parking Inspection Efficiency 16–20 Times
In Budapest, the CheckEye mobile license plate recognition system reads more than three thousand vehicle plates per hour from a moving car, increasing efficiency by 16 to 20 times. The AI’s rapid response and high accuracy (99.9 %) provide a significant advantage in parking inspection.
The CheckEye system can read license plates from a camera mounted inside a car at a distance of 35 centimeters, capturing data for more than three thousand vehicles per hour. According to the developers, the technology increases efficiency by 16–20 times because the AI quickly and accurately recognizes characters even when they are distorted or viewed from a low angle.
The system operates reliably at speeds of at least 40 km/h; in practice it remains stable at 50–52 km/h. Accuracy is measured with values of 99.9 % – that is, three nines – meaning license plates are rarely misread.
The AI can read from multiple angles and under various lighting conditions, but a plate pressed against a curb or an uneven surface can sometimes interfere. The system, however, can determine the vehicle’s exact position with additional technologies such as 3D sensors, which helps enforce parking rules.
