AI Does Not Destroy Jobs, but Creates New Competencies
In September 2023 the French Generative AI Commission examined the impact of AI on employment: the research found that companies using AI create more jobs than those that do not. This indicates that innovation does not completely destroy professions, but transforms them.
In its September 2023 study, the French Generative AI Commission analyzed data from nine hundred companies. The findings show that groups of companies employing AI generate more jobs than comparable non‑AI based organizations.
The commission determined that AI increases productivity and competitiveness. Consequently, firms expand their markets globally, leading to increased demand and thus a rise in employment.
Results indicate that only about 5 % of jobs are truly at risk due to AI. Most impacts are less pronounced in physical work, while the greatest transformations occur in office and administrative tasks.
The commission emphasized that AI does not fully replace humans but complements them. Workers must acquire new competencies – such as prompt application and verification of AI outputs – creating opportunities for retraining.
