TecLab Showcased the First RTX 5090 with Three 8‑Pin PCIe Connectors
The Brazilian TecLab modding team transformed the Galax GeForce RTX 5090D HOF OC LAB XOC card so that two native 16‑pin power connectors were converted into three conventional 8‑pin PCIe connectors. During the modification, performance was increased from 400 W to 900 W while temperature and stability remained unchanged.
In an experimental project, TecLab stripped down the Galax GeForce RTX 5090D HOF OC LAB XOC card, removing both native 16‑pin inputs. In their place, three 8‑pin PCIe connectors were soldered directly to the power regulators, and the Sense pins were re‑wired so that the card could still request maximum power.
During the live broadcast, the modders increased the card’s performance from 400 W to 900 W through the three new connectors, drawing over 120 A and maintaining a 3.4 GHz clock speed. They also tested with two 8‑pin connectors; these delivered 66 A at 3.2 GHz, while a single 8‑pin connector produced 65 A at 3.1 GHz.
The modification was performed entirely at the hardware level, without BIOS or software intervention. In testing, the card remained within its performance and temperature limits, with all measurements showing excellent results. With this, TecLab demonstrated that 8‑pin connectors still represent a viable alternative for the fastest Nvidia graphics cards.
