Claude Opus 5.5: Faster, Cheaper and Safer AI Model
Anthropic announced the Claude Opus 5.5 model on September 22, which is 30% faster and 20% cheaper than its predecessor. According to developers, the model is particularly effective for programming tasks while also making progress in security.
Anthropic announced that on September 22 the Claude Opus 5.5 model was released as the first member of the new Claude 5.5 family, following only two months after the introduction of Opus 5 in July.
The company says that Opus 5.5 generates responses more than 30% faster, while the fee calculated based on text volume is reduced by 20%. An average task can cost up to 40% less.
The model excels especially in programming and multi-step tasks: it converted a 680,000-line code in less than one day, whereas reviewing a 200,000-line base took less than three hours compared with more than twenty hours for Opus 5.
Opus 5.5 communicates more clearly, uses less technical jargon, and starts answers with the most important part. In terms of security it is less likely to try to bypass limits, is more resistant to manipulated instructions, and applies a special protection system for cyber and biological topics.
The model is already available to Claude Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise subscribers, as well as developers via the API. The hourly usage limits for paid plans have also been raised. In the coming weeks Claude Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 will also be released.
