Trump Discusses AI Use and Impact With Tech Leaders
Donald Trump met with the leaders of Anthropic, Meta and Google, among others, on September 29. The participants discussed the risks of artificial intelligence, safe development and strengthening public trust.
Trump called the September 29 meeting a big one. After the meeting, Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, Mark Zuckerberg, head of Meta, and Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, also spoke about artificial intelligence outside the White House.
Alongside the technology’s potential benefits, including medical benefits, Amodei also spoke about real risks. He said discussions on managing the risks are ongoing, and that working together can lead to success safely.
Zuckerberg said industry companies had adopted shared principles for the safe development of artificial intelligence. Their commitments include internal checks, external reviews and board reviews. The agreement aims to strengthen the public’s and customers’ trust that the technology works as its developers intend.
Pichai called the collaboration historic and stressed the importance of managing the risks. Speaking about public trust, Trump said the companies keep an eye on one another and have an interest in ensuring nothing goes wrong.
