Jensen Huang Says There’s No Chance AI Will End the World by 2030

According to a Neural Nutshell video, the Nvidia CEO considers warnings predicting the end of the world irresponsible and scientifically unfounded. Huang is calling for stronger safety checks and enforcement of existing laws before new rules are drafted.

In a Neural Nutshell video, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says he believes there is zero chance that artificial intelligence will bring about the end of the world by 2030. He calls such predictions irresponsible and says they are not based on science.

Huang says AI can be used both for good and for harmful purposes, so companies need to devote more engineering work to safety, testing and compliance checks. He also says AI companies are increasingly shifting from research to product development and large-scale operations.

On regulation, Huang says it makes sense to first apply existing laws, such as product liability rules. He believes new legislation should be considered once it becomes clear what shortcomings emerge from applying the current rules.

Neural Nutshell notes, however, that existing laws were not written for machines capable of making decisions on their own. The video also discusses the tension between rapid AI development in the United States and safety requirements.
